The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two alleged members of an armed robbery organization known as Keke NAPEP, which specializes in robbing unsuspecting drivers of their tricycles.
The suspects were identified as Steve Green, 38, and Adaugo Darlington, a female who frequently pretends to be pregnant to gain sympathy, according to the State Police acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Grace Iringe-Koko, who released a statement on Monday, April 4, 2022.
According to Iringe-Koko, the suspects pretended to be passengers, attacked the drivers with knives and machetes, and pushed them down while the tricycles were still moving, leaving with the tricycles.
She said their luck ran out on Thursday, March 31 along Rumunduru Eneka in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, when Eneka Division police operatives observed their last victim, one Lasisi Akeem, while on regular patrol.
The victim, who had machete cuts and had been robbed of his trike but was able to describe it and the perpetrators, was found with machete cuts and had been robbed of his tricycle.
According to the PPRO, police officers immediately pursued the suspects and apprehended two of them, recovering the tricycle.
She went on to say that the victim was brought to the hospital for medical treatment, and that efforts were still being made to apprehend two other suspects who had gotten away.
