As the COAS invites troops to a Sallah luncheon in Sokoto, the Army establishes a new base.”

Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), laid the foundation for a new Forward Operations Base (FOB) Isa in the Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Tuesday.

Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, said in a statement on Tuesday that the COAS also had lunch with the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji to commemorate Eid-el-fitri.

The COAS, Yahaya, stated that the decision to construct the new FOB Isa in the state’s eastern region was based on its strategic importance to ongoing operations.

He said the FOB would help plan and execute multiple operations, and he urged traditional rulers and people to work with the army to stop banditry and other horrific crimes in the region.

The COAS asked troops to step up their operations and go after outlaws in their enclaves.

He praised them for their achievements thus far and urged them not to give up on reaching the nation’s expectations.

Yahaya promised the troops that more logistics would be sent into the theater to help them fight more effectively.

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal praised the troops for their efforts in the ongoing operations and reaffirmed his support for the Nigerian army in addressing the state’s security concerns at the Government House.

Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, also assured the COAS of his continued support for the Nigerian Army.

Abubakar stated that the traditional institution would continue to educate inhabitants in their domain about the need of supporting the military and other security agencies in their efforts to combat security threats.
