Okada Rider is being held on suspicion of robbery.

On Friday, a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court remanded Philip Mpunga, a commercial motorbike operator from Makurdi’s Old Otukpo Road, for alleged armed robbery.
Miss Sonia Yaikyur, the Magistrate, refused to accept the defendant’s plea due to a lack of jurisdiction.
While the court awaited legal advice, she ordered that the accused be held at the Makurdi Correctional Centre.
The case was deferred until May 19 for additional consideration by Yaikyur.
The matter was reported to A Division police station on April 16 by one Veronica Hembafan of No. 2 Suzan Odua street old G.R.A Makurdi, Benue, according to the Police Prosecutor, Insp. James Ewache.

Ewache said the complainant alleged that the defendant followed her home after she closed her business center at Oladam old G.R.A Makurdi.
The defendant, armed with a pistol, assaulted her, beat her up, and robbed her of her itel phone worth N25,500, injuring her elbow in the process.
The complainant raised the alarm, and her family and neighbors rushed to her aid, apprehending the perpetrator.
The Suspect’s weapon and cellphone were recovered as exhibits during the police inquiry.
The prosecutor stated that the investigation into the matter was still ongoing and requested that the court set a new hearing date.

He said the offence contravened section 1(1) (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms special provision Act of 2004.
