The massacre of worshippers at a Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, has been condemned as brutal by the National Association of Catholic Lawyers (NACL).
The worshippers were massacred in cold blood, according to NACL President Mr Chukwuemeka Ezeala, who issued a statement on Monday.
On June 5, unidentified gunmen opened fire on the congregation at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, killing around 40 people.
Several worshippers were pictured in a pool of blood in a viral video on social media.
It is terrible and sacrilegious, according to Ezeala, for innocent worshippers to be attacked and slaughtered in cold blood in the peaceful town of Owo.
“The National Association of Catholic Lawyers condemns the monsters’ heinous and heinous crime in the strongest possible terms.
“May the martyrs’ souls rest in the Lord,” he said.
Ezeala expressed her condolences to the Catholic Bishop of Akure and the Nigerian Catholic Bishops Conference.
He prayed to God to comfort the bereaved families and to speed the healing of the injured.
He urged the state administration to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the heinous crime.
